Sandra North, a School Improvement Leader for Oxfordshire County Council, visited school at the end of last month to carry out an inspection. And for the second year running Mrs North has agreed that Lewknor Church of England Primary is an outstanding school.
Mrs North inspected our safeguarding arrangements and checked that our website adheres to statutory requirements. She asked about governors – their strengths and weaknesses, how they support and challenge the school leadership, governor training and the governor skills audit. She looked at our attendance and exclusion levels, how the disadvantaged pupils compare with non-disadvantaged. She congratulated school on its results saying they are ‘amazing’.
When Ofsted last visited (June 2016) the inspector could only think of one area that we should look at and that was:
‘Further improve the teaching in mathematics so that more pupils, especially the most able, can develop a greater depth and mastery of the topics that they learn.’
In July 2017, seven out of 13 Year 6 children attained a ‘greater depth’ score (extremely high score) in their SATs. One of the seven made expected progress while six of the seven made above expected progress.
Other points Mrs North picked up on and included in her report were:
- The school is in a strong position and responds quickly to specific challenges and issues as it reflects on attainment and progress.
- The school was inspected in June 2016, and is unlikely to be inspected in the near future. The progress and attainment of pupils at all statutory data points was of a very high level in 2017, and at Key Stage 1, attainment in all subjects was above average and in the highest 10% for all pupils in the country.
- The school has received an outstanding judgement in the recent (June 2017) SIAMS report, demonstrating that the excellent approach to learning is not limited solely to academic results.
Mrs North concluded: ‘‘Lewknor Primary School provides a very rich and balanced education for all its pupils and indications remain that Lewknor continues to be a reflective, aspirational and ambitious school, working at an outstanding level.’’
