Ofsted Report

‘‘If I could, I would send my children to Lewknor Primary’’
Her Majesty’s Inspector Seamus Murphy

Dear Parents

At last! Ofsted has just given us the go-ahead to publish its letter following the inspection in June. I am delighted with inspector Mr Murphy’s findings, which are a fair and accurate assessment of our wonderful school.

I would like to thank all the teachers, teaching assistants, office staff, parents and governors, who work so hard to help make this school special in so many ways. I would also like to thank the partnership headteachers and the Oxford Diocesan Board of Education, who gave their support and spoke so positively about the school during the inspection.

I want to thank the children who spoke up so well and with such confidence when asked about their school and their learning. The behaviour of all children was impeccable and the inspector was very impressed with how they looked out for one another and how the older children took care of the younger ones. I am so very proud of all the children. They are a credit to their parents and to the school.

Some of you may wonder why we were not awarded ‘outstanding’. I certainly pushed for it and put forward many reasons why I thought we are outstanding. Mr Murphy, however, explained to the governors and me that to be awarded outstanding the attendance of children at school must be 98%. Last year our attendance was 97%, which was better than previous years and above national averages. However, it is still not good enough! So, I appeal to all parents to ensure their children are in school during term time unless they are ill or there is some family emergency, which means the children cannot attend.

Finally, I would like to share with you what Mr Murphy said in his summing up of the school. He said: ‘‘If I could, I would send my children to Lewknor Primary.’’ What better endorsement is there than that.

The letter from Ofsted is attached to this email. It will be published soon on our school website and will also be available to read on the Ofsted website in five days’ time.

Yours faithfully

Deborah Cole
